Berend Wijte - Data Scientist
I came to Inergy through the Young Professional program. During the two-year program I not only worked on my technical skills, but I also grew as a person. I have always noticed that Inergy is a very warm club where everyone is ready to help each other.
As a jack-of-all-trades, I am currently involved in four projects. I fulfill different roles: Data Engineer, Data Scientist and Data Visualizer. This means that at one moment I'm busy getting data to fit properly. Then again, I'm developing reports on that data. Finally, using algorithms, I try to extract valuable and hidden patterns and information from the data that help support effective decision making.
As a Data Scientist, you answer a lot of different questions about your data, but I actually see five types of questions and corresponding applications:
- Classify: what category should I put something in?
- Detect: is this observation odd?
- Predicting: how much do we expect?
- Segmenting: how is my data organized?
- Prescribing: what is the best decision to make?
For each of these types of questions, there are different algorithms. My job is to use the best fitting algorithms and test the quality and reliability of the solutions.
